Class 3 2017- 2018 Miss Clare
Welcome to Year 3
Welcome to Year 3 and Key Stage 2! This year, working in class and supporting your child will be myself (Miss Clare) and Mrs Rutter. We are also very excited to welcome Miss Kalnins, one of the Associate Teachers in school. She is very friendly so please feel free to say hello.
We have a very exciting year ahead and are really looking forward to working with all of the children.
We have had a fantastic start to the year . Children have risen to the challenges of Year 3 and are working their socks off! During this first half term children have been learning all about George and his cruel, wicked Grandma in George's Marvellous Medicine. We are about to write our very own stories based on this brilliant book. For more information, take a look at the Year 3 overviews.
Snack: Children in KS2 no longer receive free fruit so they are encouraged to bring in a healthy snack for break time. There is also a snack bar at play time with a range of snacks (e.g. toast, bagels, bacon baps, etc) that can be purchased for prices between 25p-£1.
Swimming: Year 3 will have swimming lessons for the first half term of every term. These lessons will be on a Thursday afternoon. Please ensure children bring an appropriate swimming kit every Thursday. We do ask for a contribution of £2.50 towards the cost of the coach. Children who do not have a swimming kit will not be able to take part in the lessons. As we are unable to phone home for forgotten swim kits, if you do happen to have a spare costume/trunks that your child has grown out of we are always grateful if they are sent in for school to keep.
PE on a Monday. To make it simple a full PE kit can be sent in at the start of term and we will return it for washing at half term. A full kit consists of shorts/joggers, t-shirt and pumps/trainers. If children do not have a full PE kit they will be unable to take part in the lesson and a reminder letter will be sent home.
Recorders: Mr Eccles will be teaching the children how to play the recorder every Wednesday - I'm sure you are all looking forward to the performances!
Clothing: Please ensure all items of clothing and school bags are labelled with your child's name so that there is no confusion if it is picked up by someone else. Children are responsible for their own items of clothing and anything they bring into school!
Our aim in Class 3 is to encourage and support children to become confident, successful readers. As well as reading independently, the children take part in guided reading sessions. Please read and share books with your child at home as often as possible as this really does improve their reading and inference skills.
If you have any questions or queries, I am usually always around after school, so please don’t hesitate to come in and see me, you are always welcome.
