Nursery
Foundation 1 2026-2027
Welcome to Nursery!
Your child’s teachers this year will be-
Mrs Avis (Nursery Lead) – Mrs Rushton, Mrs McKinlay, Mrs Webb, Miss Norbury, Ms Chan and Miss Brooks.
Here is some information about our class:
- Uniform – Children in our Nursery are now no longer required to wear a uniform. We love getting messy! We feel that children are more comfortable and independent in their own clothes. However, clothing must be appropriate for Nursery e.g. joggers/leggings/T-shirts/sweatshirts and no crop tops or dressing-up clothes.
- Shoes – Comfortable shoes for dry outdoor weather and indoors.
- Wellington Boots – We will be making good use of our school grounds, which can get quite muddy, so please send your child to school with a pair of wellies that they can keep in school, if possible.
- Coats – We play and explore outside in all weathers, so please send your child to school with a coat each day (ideally waterproof), which again should be named.
- Please label all of your child’s uniform and belongings with their name, including shoes and wellies, drink bottles and bags, as this helps us to return the items to the correct child if they get lost.
- We have plenty of lovely toys in the Nursery, so please leave your own toys at home as they might be a choking hazard or they may get lost.
- Nappies and Pull-ups – If your child wears nappies or pull-ups, please provide, at least, two of these in a bag along with a spare set of clothing. Please make sure that all clothing is named.
- If your child uses the toilet, please provide spare underwear along with a spare set of clothing, including socks. If your child is starting to take an interest, or is beginning to use the toilet, please speak to staff so that we can support you by attempting to do the same at nursery.
- Allergy Reminder -Please do not send in any food that contains nuts, even in small or trace amounts. There are obviously too many foods to be listed here, but they include products such as peanut butter, Nutella, nut-based snack bars, and nut-based chocolate or sweets (Snickers, Bounty, praline etc).
- Always check labels for nut ingredients and potential cross-contamination warnings when buying products for your child’s packed lunch.
- Remind your child not to share food at school.
- If you or your child eats nuts or nut-based products at home before Nursery, please wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before you/they arrive.
- Please ensure any home-made food made for children’s lunch boxes is nut-free.
- Snack -NUT FREE The children will be offered a piece of fruit and milk or water. They will also have the option of a warm snack such as a slice of toast or crumpet each session, and we ask that you send in 20p per session, to help with the cost of this.
- Star of the Week - Each Friday we have an assembly and a child from each class is chosen for a star award. This award can be given for anything that the teacher sees as an achievement for that child. For example, being resilient, being a good role model, being a good friend, putting on their coats by themselves.
- School Comms - Please ensure you have provided your most recent email address, as most correspondence from school will be sent out electronically. If a child's time is divided between parents, please make sure we have an email address for both parents.
- We share information about our adventures in Nursery on the Ash Grove- What’s App group and let you know about your child’s progress through reports and parents’ evenings. We also hold regular stay and play sessions to stay in touch.
- Collection of Children - Morning sessions are 8.45 until 11.45 and afternoon sessions are 12.20pm until 15.20pm. If you have other children in school Please collect your Nursery-aged child first It is important that children are collected on time as they can become distressed. If you are going to be late or someone else is collecting your child, please telephone 01625 919610 to advise the main office.
We are always here to listen, so if you would like a chat, we will be available at drop off and collection times. Alternatively, you can contact us by phone on 01625 919 610 (leave a message and we will get back to you) or email: Mrs Avis – droberts@ashgrove.cheshire.sch.uk
We look forward to being partners in your child’s learning.
Yours sincerely,
- The Nursery Team.
