Oracy Homework

Oracy is the ability to speak and listen well. Just like learning to read and write, children also need to learn how to talk clearly, listen carefully, and share their ideas with confidence. Developing oracy helps children explain their thinking, take part in discussions, work well with others, and build confidence in expressing themselves.

How You Can Support Oracy at Home

Talk about your day – take turns sharing something that happened and asking questions.

Play “Would you rather…?” – encourage children to explain why they made their choice.

Storytelling – make up a story together, with each person adding the next part.

Describe and guess – one person describes an object without naming it, and the other guesses.

Role-play – act out characters from books or favourite stories.

These activities help children practise speaking in full sentences, listening carefully, and building confidence in conversations.

Can you recite our poem about summer rain to someone in your house? Remember to use a loud, clear voice!
