Class 4

                                     Welcome to Year 4

Your teaching team for the autumn term is Miss Taylor (class teacher) and Mrs Ghorbanian (teaching assistant).

We want to ensure that your child reaches their full potential - emotionally, socially and academically - and we feel that this is best achieved when we work alongside parents and carers. We have a very exciting year of learning in Year 4.  You can find out more about our curriculum by visiting the 'Our Learning' 'Ash Grove Curriculum' tab of the website.

Our Autumn Term Bookshelf theme will be ‘Heroes and Villains’, in Spring it will be 'Imagine', and in the Summer Term we will finish with 'Journeys'. We will be looking at different aspects of these themes in the high-quality books and poems we will be exploring.

School Opening Times

The doors to school are open from 8:45am and collection time for children in Year 4 is 3:30pm from the double doors onto the main playground. Breakfast club begins at 7:30am and after school club ends at 6:00pm. Please let the office know if you would like your child to attend after school club.

PE

Our PE days this year are Wednesday and Thursday. Children MUST keep their full P.E kit in school - if it is brought home to be washed at the end of the week, please ensure it is returned for the following week. P.E. is a vital part of the curriculum and all pupils are expected to participate with full kit. PE kits should include an Ash Grove T-shirt or plain white T-shirt with black, navy blue or dark grey shorts/jogging bottoms and a pair of trainers. It is also useful to pack a plain hoodie for colder weather.

Snack

Morning snack can be purchased for 25p. They will have the choice between toast and an alternative each day. Please send money into school with your child - if it is easier to send in £1.25 at the start of the week, feel free to do so and we will keep track of it in school. Your child can bring their own snack instead if you wish, but please make sure this is healthy and nutritious (not sweets or chocolate bars).

If you have any questions

If you have any queries, questions or concerns, please speak to a member of staff at the beginning or end of the day or contact us via email. It is often easier for teachers to talk with you at the end of the day.

Reading

It is so important to develop children's reading skills and nurture their love of reading. We would encourage you to read to your child as well as listen to them at home as often as possible. Whilst in school, children will be reading from a range of high-quality texts from our class Reading Journey bookshelf and bringing home books from the school library to share with you.

Times Tables

Times Tables are very important this year- please encourage your child to practise these as much as possible (see tab to the right).
