Class 6

Welcome to Year 6!                                        2024 - 2025

The Year 6 teaching team this year are:

Miss Coope         Miss Power

We are very excited to welcome children back into school for this important year of learning.

We want to ensure that your child reaches their full potential, emotionally, socially and academically, and we feel that this is best achieved when we work alongside parents. We have a very exciting year ahead of us and many new things to learn. Take a look at our school website to find out what your child will be learning in Year 6 -  Ash Grove Curriculum!

We ask that you support us by ensuring that children have good attendance throughout their time in Year 6.

Reading

At Ash Grove Academy, we value reading as a vital life skill and strive to develop fluent, motivated readers and lifelong learners. Regular opportunities to practise reading greatly help children. Therefore, we ask that you encourage your child to read daily. Whilst in school, children will be reading from a range of high-quality texts from our class Reading Journey texts and will be bringing home texts from the school library to share with you.

PE

The children will have PE twice a week on a Tuesday and a Thursday. It is important that children have the correct PE kit every week so we advise that these are kept in lockers during the half-term. The children also take part in intra-house competitions at lunchtime as well as extra netball/football practice (for those on the team) so it’s a good idea to always have a pair of trainers in school.

SATs

The 2025 Key Stage 2 SATs will take place in the week commencing Monday 12th May 2025. The tests will take place over four days. Please DO NOT book any holidays during SATs week.

Homework

Homework activities can be found in the homework tab on the right of this page. Please support your child in completing homework regularly. The activities will support your child's learning in school and help ensure that they are ready for the transition to high school.
