Spelling Practice

Children are encouraged to use their phonics knowledge to help them spell both new and familiar vocabuarly. However, some words do not follow the typical phonics rules that they are taught. These are known as common exception words (or 'tricky words') and are listed in the Y1/2 spelling list. This is a list of spellings that children are expected to be familar with by the end of Year 2. Whilst children are exposed to these spellings in school, it would also benefit them to practise at home.
